New Project: The Ezra Harel Developmental Physiotherapy Ward

The new Ezra Harel Developmental Physiotherapy Ward and staff hub, donated by Lavi Harel and the Harel family, at the Child Development Institute were inaugurated.

Headed by Prof. Haim Bassan, the Institute is an Israeli leader – and one of the country’s oldest – in the field of treating the medical and developmental aspects in the lives of children with developmental delays and multiple disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual developmental disability, consequences of prematurity, vision and hearing problems, and children with complex medical problems.

Lavi Harel, accompanied by his partner, Alison; his children; his mother, Adi; and his sisters and their children joined Prof. Bassan and Prof. Orna Tal, Deputy Director of Shamir Medical Center; Ilan Yiftach, Shamir’s administrative director; Yair Shamir, chairman of the Shamir Friends Association; and Sigal Adar, the Association’s CEO, to dedicate the new ward. The ward includes separate and private physiotherapy spaces for infants, preemies, and older children and is furnished with the most advanced diagnostic systems and treatment equipment available, as well as modern treatment rooms.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Bassan said, “On behalf of the Institute’s entire team, I would like to convey my gratitude to Lavi and his family for their generous contribution. The new ward means excellent news to our patients and their families, and it will enable us to provide physiotherapy treatments in a modern space customized to our work and affording much-needed privacy to the patients”.

A mother of an infant receiving treatment in the new ward toddler who was treated in the new wing expressed her heartfelt thanks, saying “The availability of real privacy in receiving physiotherapy care, in comparison with the former situation, in which several children were treated in one space together, is very significant for us. The innovative equipment maximizes the capabilities of the staff, who have been caring for our child from day one with professionalism and sensitivity worthy of every praise. Now the ward’s appearance perfectly matches the amazing care we receive here. On behalf of the parents and children treated here, we I would like to thank Lavi Harel and his family from the bottom of our hearts for enabling all of this to happen.”

“If I have made one child and his or her family who come here for treatment, to receive the best possible care and feel a little better – well, I have done my part,” concluded Mr. Harel.
