Shamir Medical Center

Shamir Medical Center, the fourth largest government hospital in Israel, is an 848-bed academic medical facility, caring for an ever-growing population of all nationalities, which presently stands at nearly half a million people.

The hospital was awarded the Joint Commission International standard of accreditation in 2014. The Joint Commission International evaluated Shamir Medical Center and found it to meet the international healthcare quality standards for patient care and organizational management. Achieving accreditation indicates our commitment to providing the highest standard of patient care. The Center operates 246 internal medical beds, 235 surgery beds, 85 intensive care beds, 117 gynecology and maternity beds, 64 emergency beds, 44 pediatric beds, 110 day care hospital beds, 80 geriatric beds, 72 newborn bassinets (and 20 neonatal intensive care unit bassinets), with all the diagnostic and imaging capabilities of an up-to-date facility. The area covered by the hospital comprises the towns of Rishon le Zion, Lod, Ramla, as well as tens of small settlements from the outskirts of Tel Aviv to the outskirts of Jerusalem.. The area has the highest population growth in Israel, withthere are large numbers of immigrants from Russia and Ethiopia, and a big Moslem and Christian community in Ramla and Lod. Two thirds of the citizens in our catchment area belong to the weaker social strata of the Israeli population, and receive comprehensive up-to-date medical care at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center. In addition, Assaf Harofeh Medical Center is one of the six hospitals in the country that routinely treat the Israel Defense Forces personnel, who today comprise 9% of our patient load. Assaf Harofeh Medical Center operates one of the most active emergency services in Israel, with one of the largest numbers of trauma and accident admissions, comprising thousands of trauma patients, soldiers, civilians, and elderly people. The Center has an emergency protocol to cope with mass casualty events, and the infrastructure for the treatment of non-conventional warfare casualties. The hospital, which is renowned for its compassionate approach, provides all the major services of a state-of-the-art modern medical center. Today, we offer our citizens of all nationalities, on-site comprehensive medical care, in all domains of modern medicine, with the exception of open-heart surgery, irradiation therapy and transplants, which are performed in a neighboring facility.
