Cesarean Sections
Procedures
In order to schedule an appointment for a planned (elective) cesarean section, expectant mothers are invited to the Day Hospitalization Unit for High-Risk Pregnancy.
We recommend coming to the unit from week 34 of pregnancy and no later than week 35, in cases where a cesarean section is already known to be required.
To schedule an appointment for a cesarean delivery, you must send an email to:
with the following documents attached:
- Referral from a physician – including pregnancy details and medical history
- Latest ultrasound scan report, including placenta location and fetal presentation
- Date of last menstrual period
A reply will be sent to you within up to 5 business days (excluding Fridays and Saturdays).
For further questions, you may contact the consulting midwife, Ora Sofrin, at 050-7404060
- Sunday–Thursday: 08:00–21:00
- Friday and holiday eves: 08:00–13:00
When arriving at the clinic, you must bring an authorization form from your HMO, a referral from your gynecologist, ultrasound test results, a pregnancy follow-up card, and any other medical documents that may be relevant. During your stay in the unit, you will undergo nurse intake, fetal monitoring, an ultrasound scan, and a physician examination. The cesarean section is usually performed under regional anesthesia (epidural or spinal), and in some cases under general anesthesia. It is important to distinguish between emergency cesarean section, performed urgently when the woman arrives in the delivery room and is taken immediately to the operating room due to fetal or maternal distress, and elective (planned) cesarean section, where the reason for surgery is known in advance and the date is scheduled.
Admission for Elective Cesarean Section
The physician will determine the date of the cesarean section. You must arrive the day before surgery at the appointed time for preoperative preparation. Preparation on the day before surgery includes fetal monitoring, completing the maternity admission chart, an explanation from a midwife about the surgery procedure and recovery, and blood tests. The expectant mother will undergo an ultrasound examination by the department physician. At the end of the process, the expectant mother will be discharged home and will return on the morning of the scheduled surgery.
If the woman is scheduled to be the first surgery of the day, she will be admitted the evening before and stay overnight in the Maternity Division.
On the morning of the surgery, the expectant mother must arrive fasting at the maternity emergency department, where preoperative preparations will be completed, including IV fluid insertion and a meeting with the anesthesiologist. The coordinating midwife will accompany the patient into the operating room for the cesarean section.
Accompaniment During Cesarean Section
Childbirth is an exciting and personal experience; therefore, we allow the partner to stay with you in the operating room.
If you wish, your partner may accompany you during an elective cesarean section.
The conditions for an accompanying person to enter the operating room for a cesarean section are:
- Epidural or spinal anesthesia
- Scheduled (elective) cesarean section
- Surgery performed during morning hours
Instructions for the accompanying partner will be given by the cesarean sections coordinating midwife on the morning of the surgery.
Signing the “Informed Consent Form”, which will be provided to the couple on the preparation day for the cesarean section, is a mandatory condition for the entry of the accompanying person into the operating room.
