Breast Health – Institute

The Breast Health Center at the Shamir Medical Center, offers you access to a multidisciplinary team of specialists. This team provides personalized care tailored to your needs in a supportive, compassionate environment.

Our multidisciplinary approach brings together experts who collaborate to determine the best treatment course and the most effective diagnostic options and therapeutic strategies, including in complex and rare cases.

The multidisciplinary team includes a breast surgical oncologist, a breast radiologist, an oncologist, a breast care nurse coordinator, a social worker, a plastic surgeon specializing in breast reconstruction, and a geneticist.

The physicians at the institute ensure that your treatment is individually tailored to your specific needs.

If surgery is required, the surgeons at the Shamir Medical Center are highly trained in innovative surgical approaches and include specialists in breast oncology surgery and reconstructive plastic breast surgery.

Services at the Breast Health Institute, including all required treatments, are provided by a breast oncology surgeon, who meets with you during your very first appointment at the institute and accompanies you throughout your entire care pathway, including surgery and long-term follow-up for years after treatment.

This approach ensures quick and efficient evaluation, optimal treatment, and peace of mind.

You undergo all necessary evaluations and most of your treatment in a single facility, making the process more convenient, reducing waiting times and administrative burden, and minimizing the need for multiple visits.

To schedule an appointment for a biopsy or for treatment following a new breast cancer diagnosis, send us your referral (Form 17) via WhatsApp: 050-5191381, and we will take it from there.

BRCA Clinic

New at the Shamir Medical Center: a dedicated BRCA Carrier Clinic – a clinic for women at increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

The BRCA Carrier Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic designed for women known to carry a BRCA gene mutation.

The clinic provides a comprehensive, professional framework that offers counseling on issues specific to BRCA carriers, risk-reducing treatments, surveillance for early detection of breast and ovarian cancer, and analysis and treatment of findings as needed.

The uniqueness of the clinic at the Shamir Medical Center lies in its ability to provide a complete set of examinations in one day and at one location, including breast surgeon examination, mammography, gynecologic examination, breast ultrasound, gynecologic ultrasound, and additional comprehensive tests. In addition, when needed, a consultation with a psychologist or social worker is provided, all on the same day and in one location.

Women identified as BRCA mutation carriers require extensive follow-up across multiple specialties to detect breast and ovarian cancer early. Such follow-up often creates a significant administrative and emotional burden.

The clinic’s goal is to consolidate all recommended screening tests under one roof on one day each year, reducing the burden and improving adherence to recommended follow-up. The affiliation to a dedicated clinic provides both a higher level of professional care and emotional support for women who experience anxiety related to their carrier status.

"It is important to emphasize that even if, heaven forbid, cancer develops, there are now treatments that help reduce the risk of recurrence, which is why early detection is so vital," explains Prof. Zvi Vaknin, Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Unit and the Department of Women’s Health.

The lymph nodes are part of the lymphatic system, which drains fluids from body tissues (in parallel with the circulatory system), protects the body from infections, and prevents the spread of disease-causing agents.
