Diabetes Clinic
The clinic operates within the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Shamir Medical Center.
The Diabetes Unit includes the diabetes clinic and a consultation service for the inpatient departments.
The diabetes clinic is a central (tertiary-level) clinic that treats both mild and complex diabetes cases. It specializes in the most advanced treatment methods and technologies, with an emphasis on tailoring treatment goals to each patient and their underlying medical conditions.
The clinic works in full coordination and collaboration with the various hospital departments and units, as well as with HMOs, providing comprehensive care for patients who require a multidisciplinary approach due to chronic comorbidities and/or diabetes complications.
Additional activities of the unit’s staff:
- Consultation services for hospitalized patients with diabetes, per request from inpatient departments and in accordance with national and international guidelines.
- Training for medical residents, medical students, and nursing students in the field of diabetes.
- Training hospital staff on diabetes management during hospitalization.
- Participation in clinical research on diabetes and obesity.
- Organizing community-oriented conferences.

General Information for Patients and Their Families Regarding Visits to the Diabetes Clinic
We believe that awareness and knowledge about the disease, combined with the treatment and guidance provided by our team, will help you maintain optimal functioning over time and prevent complications.
At the diabetes clinic, you will receive close professional follow-up and personal attention from a multidisciplinary team to help you achieve optimal glucose control and provide the tools you need to manage your diabetes.
Your visit to the diabetes clinic will include:
- Intake and guidance provided by a diabetes nurse
- Examination by a diabetes specialist physician
- Appointments with a dietitian and psychological counseling can be provided as needed
Before each visit to the clinic, it is important to bring:
- Medical documents and recent blood test results
- A referral/authorization form (Form 17)
- A glucose meter (glucometer) or sensor
- Food/drink and insulin injection supplies if needed
- Your regular medications should be taken as usual prior to the appointment
Gestational Diabetes and Adult Diabetes Clinic
The clinic treats adults aged 18 and older with Type 1 diabetes, including patients using insulin pumps, as well as patients with Type 2 diabetes. In addition, the clinic treats women with gestational diabetes who require insulin therapy. The service is provided by an endocrinologist. Nutritional counseling is provided by a clinical dietitian who specializes in this field. Treatment includes education for patients using insulin pumps and for women with gestational diabetes, as well as creating a personalized meal plan tailored to their medical treatment, with ongoing monitoring of glucose levels as needed.
