Dr. Daniel Trotsky – Deputy Director of the Shamir Medical Center

Dr. Daniel Trotsky (43), who has successfully led Shamir’s Emergency Medicine (Triage) Department in the past three years, was recently appointed as Deputy Director of the Medical Center, replacing Dr. Yitzhak Scharf, who recently retired.

Dr. Trotsky and his wife Tal, a social worker, have three children. He is a specialist in emergency medicine and medical management, holds a master's degree in healthcare administration (MHA) from Bar-Ilan University, and is a graduate and fellow of the INBAR healthcare management reserve program (“Inbar”) by the Maoz organization and the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Trotsky studied at the Faculty of Medicine in Debrecen, Hungary, was an emergency medicine resident at Sheba Medical Center, and subsequently managed the emergency medicine department at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov Hospital. He completed his specialization in medical health administration at the Shamir Medical Center and in the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Trotsky serves as secretary of the Israel Association for Emergency Medicine board.

Upon assuming office, Dr. Trotsky thanked the Shamir Medical Center’s Director, Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach: “Shamir has been my home in the past three years. I have found in it an address for advanced and compassionate medicine, technological developments, and creative long-term programs, through which the medical center has grown and developed into a leading hospital in Israel. I am happy to be a part of the medical center’s administration and continue furthering it, together with Dr. Levtzion-Korach and the other members of the management staff, as one of the the country’s leading medical centers”.

Dr. Gal Fahis – Director of the Emergency Medicine Department (Triage)

Dr. Gal Fahis, 42, has been named as head of the Emergency Medicine Department (Triage) at the Shamir Medical Center, making him Israel’s youngest director in this capacity today. Prior to his appointment and in the past two years, he served as deputy to Dr. Daniel Trotsky, Shamir Medical Center’s recently appointed Deputy Director.

Dr. Fahis is married to Ayelet, a neonatal ICU nurse and midwife, and is a father of two.

He began his professional journey as a paramedic in a special IDF unit and later, while studying medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he worked at David Adom. After graduating, he specialized in emergency medicine and completed his specialization at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. Subsequently, he was appointed as Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center – Ichilov Hospital’s head of inpatient and emergency room departments.

In the past three years, Dr. Fahis has led various fields at Shamir’s Emergency Medicine Department – one of Israel’s largest, busiest, and most advanced ERs.

Upon assuming his new role, Dr. Fahis said, “The Emergency Medicine Department serves as the gateway to the medical center and excels in providing outstanding emergency medical services, employing advanced technological means, and most importantly, offering a human-centered approach, attuned to patient needs and a close-knit team collaborating with all of Shamir’s departments and wards.”

Dr. Fahis expressed his gratitude to the medical center’s management for the opportunity to lead the department and for its support in advancing and empowering emergency medical services.

Prof. Elad Anter – Director of the Arrhythmia Institute

Prof. Elad Anter, an internationally renowned cardiologist and one of the world’s top experts in the field of arrhythmias, has joined the Shamir Medical Center in order to establish here a unique institute for the treatment of arrhythmias, integrating advanced care, technological innovation, and academic excellence.

Arrhythmias are currently the leading cause of death among young people and is a common cause of morbidity in older individuals. They can manifest in weakness, shortness of breath, heart failure, and stroke.

For the past 20 years, Prof. Anter has developed cutting-edge methods and technologies for the treatment of arrhythmias, mentored numerous physicians and interns from around the world, and lectured across the globe about his lab’s pioneering studies. He also serves on the editorial boards of prestigious medical journals and is as a member of the committee tasked with writing guidelines for the treatment of arrhythmias by the American Heart Association and the Heart Rhythm Society.

Prof. Anter graduated his medicine studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, then specialized in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, which is affiliated with Harvard University. After a residency in cardiology and arrhythmias at the leading Hospital in the field, University of Pennsylvania, he returned to Boston and joined the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital as a senior physician. His remarkable contributions to the world of medicine, especially to the research and teaching of arrhythmias, have earned him the rank of Associate Professor at Harvard University and international recognition, with thousands of patients from across the USA.

Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach, Director of the Shamir Medical Center: “I welcome the addition of Prof. Anter to the Shamir family. The new Arrhythmia Institute he heads is wonderful news for our patients throughout Israel and a continuation of the medical center’s development and innovation momentum.”

Dr. Shlomi Peretz – Head of Neurology

Dr. Shlomi Peretz, 42, has been appointed as Shamir Medical Center’s Head of Neurology, making him the youngest physician serving in this role in Israel.

Dr. Peretz is married to Idit, a senior oncologist at the Davidoff Center at Beilinson Hospital (Rabin Medical Center), and a father of eight.

He completed his studies at the Hebrew University and specialized in neurology at Sheba Medical Center, achieving honors in both his degree and specialty tests. He was then appointed as deputy director of Sheba’s Neurology Department, while also undertaking fellowship training in stroke care. During this time, he gained valuable experience in the neurological-neurosurgical intensive care unit.

In 2017, he moved to Rabin Medical Center, where he led the stroke service, fostering quality processes in stroke care and elevating the hospital's status nationally. He actively contributed to establishing the stroke unit there.

Upon taking on his new role, Dr. Peretz expressed his gratitude to the medical center's management for entrusting him with the responsibility to develop and improve the inpatient and ambulatory neurological services. He acknowledged the international growth and investment in the field of neurology, particularly in stroke care, at both the clinical and research levels. He expressed his hopes and wishes that the Neurology Department will provide exceptional and compassionate treatment to patients suffering from neurological diseases, following the esteemed tradition of Shamir Medical Center.

Dr. Dr. Yiftah Beer – Head of the Orthopedic Division

Matti Shchori – Chief of Medical Imaging and Head of the School for Medical Imaging

Matti, who holds a master's degree in health systems management and having completed various professional and administrative enrichment courses, has worked at the medical center for some 25 years. He specializes in advanced imaging techniques such as Angio, MRI, and CT. Matti's professional journey began as a medical imaging technician at the hospital. Over time, he ascended to manage the computed tomography unit, earning the unit accolades for its excellence and notable achievements in customer service.

At the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, Matti was appointed as the deputy chief imaging technician, and worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth operation of the imaging system despite the challenges posed by closures and manpower shortages. Throughout this period, he remained committed to providing top-notch service and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in patient diagnosis.

In his new role, his primary goal is to lead and advance the Imaging Institute, positioning it at the forefront of technological development and emphasizing the value of human capital. He is determined to deliver compassionate, outstanding, and safe service to patients. Matti is also focused on enhancing professional training in the field of imaging at Shamir’s School for Medical Imaging and imaging institute, and said, “While we face economic and systemic challenges, especially within the health system, I am confident that my experience, professionalism, and motivation will enable me to overcome these obstacles and achieve the goals I have set.”

The management of the medical center, led by Dr. Osnat Levtzion-Korach, and of the Imaging Department, led by Prof. Sigal Tal, wished Matti every success in his new role.
