Helmsley Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency Departments
Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) Announces the Opening of the Helmsley Obstetrics and Gynecology Emergency Departments
The new facilities complete with 14 private examination rooms that provide the most innovative and state-of-the-art medical treatments, were made possible with a $3,500,000 grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.
Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh) inaugurated last July the new Helmsley Obstetrics and Gynecological Emergency Departments that are part of Shamir’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Division. The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust provided a grant of $3.5 million to Shamir Medical Center for the expansion and renovation of these departments.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Yuli Edelstein, the Minister of Health, Dr.Osnat Levtzion Korach, Director General of Shamir Medical Center, and Prof. Roni Maimon, Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Division, Shamir Medical Center.
The new Helmsley Emergency Departments prioritize the patients’ needs and offer private and spacious examination rooms that are equipped with advanced technologies and allow for a quick transition to a delivery room if necessary.
Thanks to the Helmsley Charitable Trust’s grant, the Obstetrics Emergency Department was transformed from a 144 sq.m. facility to a 960 sq.m. facility capable of providing the best medical care possible. Instead of the original five preparation stations and two bathrooms, the newly expanded department offers Shamir’s patients 14 private rooms, two of which are fully equipped for delivery. The Obstetrics Emergency Department is outfitted with portable ultrasound devices that can be moved between rooms, and the rooms themselves are equipped with state-of-the-art medical technologies that enable the medical staff to remotely receive complete, updated status reports of each patient’s condition without having to enter the patient’s room.
The Helmsley Gynecological Emergency Department similarly has been transformed from a small, 60 sq.m room into a 220 sq.m space with patient rooms and private bathrooms.
"The new Helmsley Obstetrics and Gynecological Emergency Departments, together with our delivery rooms and maternity departments, are among the most active, busiest departments in Israel. I would like to thank the Helmsley Charitable Trust for its support, which has made it possible to execute this important project for the benefit of our patients," said Dr. Levtzion Korach, Director General of Shamir Medical Center. Dr. Levtzion Korach added that
Mr. Yuli Edelstein, the Minister of Health, said: "Deep appreciation to the Helmsley Foundation for everything you are doing. You are not just, as Dr. Levtzion – Korach just said, true friends of the state of Israel, specifically you are good friends of the Israeli health system, of Israel's Hospitals, every campus I visit, and I visit a lot, you can find a building with the words Helmsley on it, And I want to express my deep gratitude for it."
Sandor Frankel, one of Helmsley’s Trustees, said “Helmsley is pleased to be able to help Shamir Medical Center enhance its Gynecological and Obstetrics Emergency Departments to provide the most modern and effective treatments available to Israeli women.”
